Cunha lies half way between Rio and São
Paulo, nestled in the mountains about 40 km from Paraty. It can be
also reached from the highway (Via Dutra) between Rio and São Paulo
(How to Go). The town and it's
surroundings are considered to have Brazil's best climate, and hosts
a number of waterfalls and cascades. It is also known as the capital
of ceramic artisans, some of international renown. The rural
ambience is enhanced by some very good restaurants and bars, besides
the more popular and favorably priced ones. One can just stroll, or
go on organized hikes. Horseback rides, trips to Paraty and
elsewhere in the area, can be arranged (some of these in
old-fashioned "Beetles" even). I assure you; You'd have rarely been
to a more tranquil, yet exciting and beautiful place, and would be
cleansed of all stresses for some time.
